Shopify · Discounts

A discount is a
measured give.

Almost every Shopify AI can answer a question. Almost none can act. This one can offer a discount at the moment someone hesitates — inside a ceiling you set, using your real Shopify codes, and only if you switch it on.

Comb cells drawn down to different levels beneath a cap line — a measured draw, never past the ceilingMAX
The objection first

An uncapped discounting agent is a margin leak with a chat bubble

This is the reasonable first reaction, so it deserves the first section rather than a footnote. If an agent can decide what your product is worth, you have not automated a salesperson — you have automated a price cut.

Off by default

A new install never offers a discount. Nothing in the conversation implies your price is negotiable until you decide it is.

Capped when on

You set a maximum percentage. The agent works inside that band and has no mechanism to raise its own ceiling.

Per store, not per chat

The limit does not reset when a shopper opens a new conversation, so re-rolling the chat cannot negotiate a better price.

The timing

The same 10% is worth completely different amounts

A banner discounts everyone, including the people who were going to buy anyway. That is the expensive kind. The cheap kind reaches only the shopper who was about to leave.

Step
01

Not on arrival

A discount in the greeting is a price cut applied to your whole funnel, including every customer who never needed one.

Step
02

At the stall

Product chosen, a question or two asked, then nothing. That is the moment a small, bounded nudge changes an outcome instead of subsidising one.

Step
03

Inside your rules

It applies your real Shopify codes, so stacking behaviour, reporting and finance stay exactly where they already are.

Adjacent

The other things it settles in-conversation

Gift card balances

The shopper has the card and no way to see what is left on it. Checking it in chat removes a support ticket that should never have existed.

Returns and exchanges

Started in the conversation, handed to a human with the thread attached — nobody repeats themselves.

Cart and checkout

It can build the cart and hand over a real Shopify checkout link, so the discount lands on a basket rather than in a promise.

Questions

AI discounts, answered

01Can the agent give away my margin?+
Not past the ceiling you set. Discounting is off until you enable it, and when you do you set a maximum percentage. The agent works inside that band — it cannot decide a customer deserves more than you allowed, and it has no mechanism to raise its own limit.
02When should an agent discount at all?+
At the moment of hesitation, not as a greeting. A discount offered to everyone who lands is a price cut you did not intend. A discount offered to someone who has picked a product, asked two questions and stalled is a close. The value is entirely in the timing, which is the one thing a static banner cannot do.
03Does this replace my Shopify discount codes?+
No — it uses them. Codes, rules and stacking behaviour stay in Shopify, where your finance and reporting already live. The agent decides when to offer, not what discounting means on your store.
04What stops shoppers gaming it?+
The ceiling is per-store, not per-conversation, so restarting a chat does not unlock a better price. And because discounting is a config you turn on deliberately, the default for a new install is simply that it never offers one.
05Can it handle gift cards too?+
It can check a gift card balance in-conversation, which is a surprisingly common support ticket and an unnecessarily annoying one — the shopper has the card in hand and no way to see what is left on it without emailing you.
06What if I never want it to discount?+
Leave it off. It stays a shopping and support agent, and nothing in the flow implies a price is negotiable. Plenty of stores should run it that way — if your margin is thin or your brand never discounts, an agent that occasionally offers 10% is actively wrong for you.

Leave it off until it earns the switch.

Install the agent, run it as a shopping and support agent first, and turn discounting on only when you can see where conversations stall.
